An auxiliary verb (or helping verb) is used with a main verb to help express the main verb’s tense, voice or mood.

The main auxiliary verbs are do, be and have. in the following forms:

  • Do: does, do, did.
  • Be: am, is, are, was, were, being, been, be
  • Have: has, have, had.
